At Veterans Improving Lives Auxiliary (VILA), our vision is to end veteran homelessness by building pathways to permanent housing, holistic support, and lasting independence.
Our Approach
We take an integrated approach to veteran homelessness addressing not only the lack of housing dilemma, but also the underlying causes and contributing factors.

Meet Our Founder, David DeWalt
David J. DeWalt is a Louisville, Kentucky native, born August 15, 1974, in General Hospital. He attended Ballard High School and then joined the US Army from 1992- 2004. He was a highly decorated soldier before he was honorably discharged. He is a dedicated professional carpenter and real estate investor recognized for his strong commitment to community, leadership, and operational excellence. Drawing from a wealth of experience with varies overseas government contractors, local unions, and nonprofits, David has spent years helping to execute complex projects and drive organizational mission success.
David holds a degree from Sullivan University, where he honed his skills in management and advanced professional strategy. Rooted deeply in his values of faith, family, and lifelong friendships, his career is marked by a focus on collaboration and building trusted relationships. Based in Louisville, Kentucky, David remains actively engaged in local community initiatives and industry developments.
